Ballinclare Fair Day: May 3rd

Sunday 4 May will be fair day in Annascaul! Ballinclare Fair was originally held in the townland of that name, about a mile outside Annascaul Village, on 1 May and 4 October. In the nineteenth century the fair moved into the Main Street of the village, but retained its old name.

Ballinclare, described as a “Fair Town” in Topographia Hibernica or the Topography of Ireland Ancient and Modern by William Wenward Seward in 1757

By the 1950s the fair had died out, but it has recently been revived. Among the attractions for this May’s fair are:

  • Gig rig & bouncy castle outside The South Pole Inn all day,
  • Cup for best horse
  • Pet Show & competition outside Hanafin’s Bar @ 2pm,
  • Stalls arriving from early morning & mutton pies all day!!!!
