Tidy Towns involves more than tidiness, litter control and flower displays. It is important to be aware of all categories so that we can submit the best possible entry and improve on last year. Community involvement is the key to success and we ask all residents and community groups to support our efforts to have our village looking its very best for the summer.
Closing date 22nd May – Judging takes place in June.

Information Boards and Walking Trails
With the help of grant aid from SKDP we now have information Boards located at the Inspiration Lodge and the Tom Crean Memorial Garden Annascaul Walks have also received SKDP grant aid for the Walking Trails Board located at the Tom Crean Garden

2014 Projects

A local survey on Sustainable Waste and Resource Management is being prepared and we ask for your cooperation in completing the questionnaire.

Approach Roads
Progress on Back Road; Local Councillors Seamus Fitzgerald, Michael O’Shea and Matt Griffin have pledged funding for 2014 and our Local Area Engineer has informed the committee that the footpath will be completed in the coming year.

Derelict Buildings
With the permission of the owner and estate agent some improvements are being made to the derelict residence on the Station Road

Landscaping
The highest score achieved last year was in this category thanks to the implementation of the FÁS maintenance programme
FÁS Projects so Far this year:

Making good stone wall s
The FÁS team regularly cut grass in summer, trim hedging, remove weeds, pick litter, sweep streets and in cooperation with volunteers maintain and water planters and flower beds.
The committee invites all residents to use window boxes, planters and flower beds to ensure a good display of colour for the summer.

Volunteer Hour / County Clean up
County Clean up on Saturday 12th April @ 10:30 am ; to do all approach roads meet at old bridge
Scoil Bhreac Chluain Green Flag Clean up Thursday 10th April at Bunaneer
Volunteer Hour 2014 begins on Monday 21st April 7 to 8pm meet at Community Centre

Community Group Involvement
Some community groups have agreed to take on specific tasks contact from other groups in the community is very welcome

Residential Streets and Housing Areas
We will continue to support residents and welcome communication from residents groups

Fund Raising;
Quiz night in February raised €500. Thanks to Hannafin’s Bar for hosting it, to those who contributed spot prizes, to the team who organised the event and to those who supported it.
Cake Sale: A bring a buy cake sale with the support of the ICA swill be held in the Community Care Centre on Sunday May 4th Ballinclare Fair Day.

Community Tourism Strategic Action Plan
Annascaul Development Group in association with SKDP and Boland Marketing have produced a Community Tourism Strategic Plan . The report is on display in the PO and in the Community Centre. The next cluster meeting for the development of the plan takes place in the Community Centre on Tuesday 15th April from 10:30 to 1:00. We invite business people interested in developing a tourism marketing strategy for Annascaul to attend.

The committee extend their condolence to the Curran family on the death of Richard who supplied bedding plants to Tidy Towns committee.
